How Our Process Service Works
Every job starts with a quick intake and document review so we’re aligned on venue rules, deadlines, and preferred service type. We verify addresses, plan lawful approach windows, and document each attempt with time-stamped notes and geo-tagged photos when available. If a subject is difficult to locate, we can add targeted skip tracing to confirm the best service address before burning attempts. Process Service FAQs
What is process service?
Process service is the legal delivery of court documents to parties involved in a lawsuit. This includes summons, complaints, subpoenas, restraining orders, divorce papers, eviction notices, and other legal notifications. Colorado law requires that these documents be served by a neutral third party (not someone involved in the case) who is over 18 years old. Professional process servers ensure proper service is completed according to Colorado Rules of Civil Procedure, providing proof of service documentation that courts require to proceed with cases.
How quickly can you serve papers?
Standard service typically occurs within 2-5 business days depending on defendant availability and location. Rush service is available for urgent cases, with same-day or next-day service options (additional fees apply). Timing depends on factors like how easily the person can be located, whether they are avoiding service, and their typical schedule. We prioritize urgent cases like restraining orders and time-sensitive legal matters. Provide as much information as possible about the defendant to expedite service.
What if the person is avoiding service?
Avoiding service is common in legal matters. Our process servers have extensive experience with evasive defendants. We use skip tracing techniques to locate individuals, conduct surveillance to determine schedules and patterns, serve at various times and locations, work with neighbors and employers when appropriate, and document all service attempts thoroughly. If personal service proves impossible after diligent efforts, we can help your attorney petition the court for alternative service methods like posting or publication, as allowed under Colorado law.
How much does process service cost?
Standard process service in the Denver metro area typically costs $50-100 per attempt. Rush service (same-day or next-day) costs $100-150. Multiple attempts, difficult-to-locate defendants, or service outside our immediate area may incur additional fees. Skip tracing services (locating hard-to-find individuals) are available for $150-300. We provide flat-rate quotes upfront and never charge hidden fees. Volume discounts are available for attorneys and companies with ongoing service needs.
What proof of service will I receive?
You will receive a completed Affidavit of Service (also called Return of Service) that meets Colorado court requirements. This legal document includes the date, time, and location of service, description of the person served, description of documents served, process servers signature and certification, and detailed notes about the service attempt. This affidavit must be filed with the court to prove proper service occurred. We provide both original signed copies for court filing and digital copies for your records immediately after successful service.
